MADRID, 23 (EUROPA PRESS)

Sixty-two percent of Israelis say they believe Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government no longer enjoys the trust of the majority of the population, amid a high level of discontent with the imminent new offensive it is preparing against Gaza City.

The offensive was met with a massive demonstration last week, when between 200,000 and 500,000 people — according to police and organizers' estimates — marched through Tel Aviv to demand the immediate suspension of an operation that could constitute a death sentence for the 20 hostages still being held by Palestinian militias in the enclave.

Regarding the conflict in general terms, a majority of Israelis favor some kind of agreement. Forty-six percent of those surveyed support a comprehensive agreement that would end the war, and 26 percent even want an immediate ceasefire, even if it only achieves the partial release of the hostages.

Only 18 percent supported the new offensive, and only 27 percent believe Netanyahu still has the support of the majority of Israelis, according to the survey conducted by Panel4All between August 20 and 21, with a margin of error of +/- 4.4 percent, and published by the Maariv newspaper.
