Niger's armed forces have reported that they have "eliminated" Ibrahim Mahamadou, a leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group known as "Bakoura," in a "targeted" operation on Shilawa Island in the Lake Chad basin.
The operation in question took place last Friday and was "successful," as the Army now explained in a statement, in which it asserted that the "terrorist" in question had been "neutralized," along with other members of the group.
To this end, the military carried out several attacks with "maximum precision" against the terrorist group's positions in the basin, which lies on the border between Niger, Nigeria, Chad, and Cameroon. From these positions, the Army indicated, Boko Haram carried out attacks against the countries in the area.
According to information from the Armed Forces, Mahamadou was in his 40s and originally from Nigeria. The militant had joined Boko Haram thirteen years ago and later became one of its leaders following the death of Aboubacar Shekau in 2021.
