MADRID, 17 (EUROPA PRESS)

Nearly 155,000 people have been left without power in Puerto Rico by Hurricane Erin, a Category 3 hurricane and the first of the Atlantic season, according to Luma, a company that confirmed on its X account.

"As a result of the weather conditions caused by Hurricane Erin, around 154,909 customers remain without power as of 7:15 a.m. local time," the operator explained.

"The inclement weather has caused multiple disruptions across the island. Our teams continue to work to address each situation as quickly and safely as possible," he added.

Heavy rains are affecting the northern Lesser Antilles, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico this Sunday, with the potential for "considerable" flooding in urban areas and even landslides.

The French meteorological service has suspended the alert for its overseas territories of Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy, as has the Netherlands for Saint Marteen.
