MADRID, 21 (EUROPA PRESS)
Meliá Hotels International has announced that it has ceased operations of the iconic ME Reina Victoria hotel in Madrid starting this August, after two decades as a member of the ME by Meliá brand, launched in 2004, according to a statement.
The hotel chain noted that this establishment, located in Plaza de Santa Ana, was the brand's first in Spain, establishing itself as "one of the great catalysts of contemporary luxury in the capital."
"The historic and popularly known as the "bullfighters' hotel" was transformed, thanks to an ambitious and visionary renovation, into a true symbol of the avant-garde, where travelers from around the world and locals shared unique experiences, in addition to hosting numerous celebrities from the world of culture and fashion," he emphasized.
The iconic asset belongs to the Equity Real Estate portfolio, acquired by the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) for €600 million in 2023 and previously managed by Meliá.
Thus, this announcement marks the farewell of the ME by Meliá brand in Madrid, although the company itself has stated that it is already working on its return, with the goal of soon establishing itself in a "reference" location that "lives up to the brand's legacy and personality."
Meanwhile, the company is preparing the opening of Zel Madrid, the first urban hotel of the young brand created with former tennis player Rafael Nadal, which will open its doors on Madrid's Gran Vía in 2026.
For its part, ME by Meliá has evolved from its Madrid location to become an international brand with a presence in destinations such as London, Dubai, Ibiza, Milan, and Barcelona. It currently has 10 hotels open and continues to expand with recent openings such as ME Malta and ME Lisbon, in addition to the renovation of ME Marbella, which opened this summer.
In the coming years, the brand plans to add six new hotels in countries such as Spain , Mexico, China, and Albania.
SALE OF HOTEL FURNITURE
As a result of this announcement, ECO-ONE has organized a public sale of all the hotel's furniture for the weekend of September 5-7. The event will be held on the ground floor of the hotel, at Plaza Santa Ana 14, with free admission and greatly reduced prices.
The furniture, ranging from box-spring beds to Barcelona-style armchairs and chaise longues, will be arranged in settings that recreate entire rooms, so visitors can visualize how they would look in their own homes.
Small items can be picked up immediately, while larger items can be picked up on September 9 and 10, or delivered to your home within Madrid.
