Lewandowski, Vinícius, Julián Álvarez, Sorloth, Raphinha: the elite club vying for La Liga's top scorer award
MADRID, 13 (EUROPA PRESS)
The top scorer for the 2025-2026 LaLiga EA Sports season will initially be among a handful of forwards, most likely Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, or Atlético de Madrid players, who are already known, as logic dictates, based on history and the lack of major signings for their goal-scoring potential, as in the Premier League.
Although the transfer market was very active, no renowned strikers arrived in Spanish football, unlike in the English league, where millions were spent on Viktor Gyökeres (Arsenal), Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko (Manchester United); Hugo Ekitike (Liverpool) and Joao Pedro and Liam Delap (Chelsea).
Given this, it's hard not to imagine Kylian Mbappé repeating his top scorer status, after scoring 31 goals and winning the European Golden Boot in his first season at Real Madrid. The Frenchman ultimately excelled, though he couldn't celebrate the La Liga title, despite a poor start, with his famously logical adaptation.
The former Paris Saint-Germain player put Robert Lewandowski ahead of a player who was in a bit of a slump in the final stretch, also due to injury. However, despite his 37 years of age, the Pole looks set to repeat as the key player in FC Barcelona's attack, and that means a significant number of potential goals for his tally.
A head-to-head between the two is the most likely Pichichi candidate, but there are a few more reasonable options, especially those dressed in white or blue and red. For Madrid, Vinícius appears to be facing a breakthrough season, after a lack of performance, with eleven goals in the last La Liga season.
Lamine is expected to be a scorer
The Brazilian is clearly a favorite for Xabi Alonso's Real Madrid, where the role of Gonzalo García, Rodrygo, and Endrick remains to be seen. On the Catalan side, there's a high probability that Lamine Yamal will finally want to break down the door as a contender for the best player in the world at 18 years old.
The Spanish international has been steadily improving in recent years, winning Europe with Spain, La Liga with Barça, and one step away from playing in the Champions League final. Despite his undeniable quality, the player from Rocafonda has a score to settle, especially in La Liga, after long spells without scoring and a nine-goal deficit.
For this 2025/26 season, the Ballon d'Or contender's scoring breakthrough is more than likely. However, his role in drawing and dribbling opponents makes him a chance generator that Lewandowski himself or Raphinha, who, after scoring 18 goals in last season's league, will have the challenge of surpassing himself, can capitalize on.
As a contender for the domestic championship, Atlético hopes to have its forwards fighting for the 'Pichichi' award. Argentine Julián Álvarez made his class clear in his first year in the red and white team with 17 goals, as did Alexander Sorloth, a pure center forward who made the most of his playing time with 20 goals despite often coming off the bench.
The 'Spider' and the Norwegian will surely be among the top scorers in the 2025-2026 league table, where no one knows what the 2025-2026 season will hold. However, surprises in the Pichichi category are coming infrequently. Of the last 16 trophies, only one has not gone to a Barça or Madrid player: Artem Dovbyk's two championships ago with Girona, although those were the years of Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi.
As for the Zarra Trophy, awarded to the best Spanish goalscorer, Canary Islander Ayoze Pérez (Villarreal CF) will defend his title from last season when he scored 19 goals, with the greatest threat perhaps coming from the voracious Lamine Yamal or players such as Oihan Sancet (Athletic Club), Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad) or Ferrán Jutglá (RC Celta).
