Press conference by the Mayor of Salto and the dismissal of officials

Salto Mayor Carlos Albisu announced at a press conference the dismissal of 292 municipal employees, a measure he described as painful but necessary.

This Wednesday at the Córdoba Palace , Salto Mayor Carlos Albisu held a press conference where he confirmed the dismissal of 292 municipal employees. The workers had been appointed directly during the previous administration, and according to the mayor, their tenure was based on an agreement that had no legal basis.

Legal and political arguments

Albisu maintained that the agreement seeking to provide stability to those incomes was contrary to legal and constitutional norms. "Our responsibility is to all the people of Salta and to respect the Constitution," he said. At the same time, he acknowledged that the decision entailed a high human cost, because behind each case were families with job prospects.

Economic impact of the cessation announced at the conference

The mayor explained that maintaining these ties represents a monthly expense of approximately 20 million pesos , or approximately $6 million a year. He also explained that the final settlement for the withdrawal will cost close to $750,000. In this regard, he asserted that the Municipality must prioritize economic sustainability and allocate resources to essential areas.

Press conference of the Mayor of Salto and the legacy received

Albisu recalled that upon taking office, he found a municipality with debts to the Banco República and suppliers, deteriorating infrastructure, and closed services, such as the zoological museums. However, he clarified that the budget for 234 employees and the restructuring of more than 300 employees were maintained. "This refutes malicious interpretations that seek to create confusion," he stated.

Carlos Albisu and the criteria applied

The mayor indicated that some of those dismissed had been hired as "political appointees" who never performed their duties. However, he clarified that specific cases will be considered for humanitarian reasons or service needs, which could lead to specific exceptions.

With this conference, Albisu took a strong political and legal stance on human resource management in the municipality, sparking a debate that will surely continue in the union sphere and within the Departmental Council.

Carlos Albisu's announcement quickly generated repercussions in the political and union spheres of Salto. Union groups have already announced that protest measures will be considered, considering the mass layoffs a blow to the job security of hundreds of families. At the same time, opposition leaders questioned the timing and manner in which the resolution was communicated, stating that the Mayor's Office should have sought negotiation before implementing a decision of this magnitude.

Political and union repercussions after the press conference

The mayor, however, insisted that maintaining these contracts would have meant a serious diversion of resources to the detriment of other management priorities. He recalled that, upon taking office, he found a municipality with significant debts, closed cultural services, and a virtually paralyzed vehicle fleet. In that scenario, he maintained, it was not possible to maintain relationships that were born "outside the law."

Beyond the controversy, the measure opens a fundamental debate about the way hiring is carried out in the departmental public administration. Labor law experts consulted by local media agreed that the case could be taken to court, as several of those affected could resort to legal action to challenge the validity of their contracts.

At the same time, on the political level, the episode marks a turning point in Albisu's administration. His remarks at a press conference sought to convey firmness, but also empathy for those who are losing their positions. "It's not easy, but governing involves making decisions that guarantee respect for the Constitution and the sustainability of the Municipality," he concluded.
