MADRID, 14 (EUROPA PRESS)

Spanish MotoGP rider Marc Márquez (Ducati) defended this Thursday that the "main priority" in the second half of the World Championship is to clinch the title, for which he wants to "have a 'match point' as soon as possible," although he acknowledged that he has to control himself, because "you can't always be the fastest."

"The main objective is to try to restart the Championship in the best possible way, with the same positive momentum we've had in recent races. I've lost three or four times against the red bikes; now I'm riding a red bike, so we'll see if we're in a position to take the win, but it's not the main priority with this 120-point lead," the Catalan said at the official press conference for the Austrian Grand Prix.

The Cervera native, with 381 points in the World Championship, warned that having a 120-point lead over his brother Álex (281) "means that the only one who can let the title slip away" is himself. "I have to control myself in some races, because you can't always be the fastest in every session, in every race," he admitted.

"That's where I'll need to control all these situations, but ultimately, my mentality and character are the same as the first part of the season: trying to give my all every weekend," he added.

Márquez would like to "have a 'match point' as soon as possible," but that doesn't mean he's going to put on "that kind of pressure or ambition." "I have to maintain the same character, the same profile I've had in these first races. I'll try to fight for the win every weekend, but the important thing will be to win the World Championship," he reiterated.

"Of course, I'd like to reach 100 wins, and if we continue doing what we're doing, it will happen. But I never obsess over numbers; I'm obsessed with winning regardless of the number of victories; the championships are the most important thing. And in this second half of the season, I can't make the mistake of trying to win every race because the main objective is the World Championship," Márquez reiterated.

Finally, the Cervera native predicted a fast race in Austria, although he doesn't expect the "fights" that existed in the past due to the current setup of bikes. "The rear devices and aerodynamics affect things; you can't brake or turn at the same point. We'll see, but I don't think we can expect the kind of fights we saw before," he concluded.
