Filling up the tank is up to almost 6 euros cheaper than in 2024 for gasoline, and almost 2 euros for diesel.
MADRID, 14 (EUROPA PRESS)
Fuel prices have continued their downward trend this week, following two consecutive drops, and are reaching their lowest levels so far this summer before the August 15th long weekend.
Specifically, the average price of a liter of diesel has fallen for the second week in a row, after falling 0.63% compared to seven days ago, reaching €1.423, its lowest level since the end of June, according to data from the EU Petroleum Bulletin reported by Europa Press.
Meanwhile, the average price per liter of gasoline also recorded its second drop, down 0.2% compared to last week, to €1.483, the same level as in mid-June.
These prices, the lowest so far this summer, coincide with the August 15th long weekend, one of the busiest on Spanish roads—which begins this Thursday and runs until next Sunday—with the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) predicting more than seven million journeys over the course of these four days.
At these price levels, gasoline prices will have fallen by 2.75% so far in 2025, while diesel prices will have fallen by 1.4%.
FILL THE TANK.
At current prices, filling an average 55-liter tank of diesel costs around €78.26, about €1.98 less than at the same time last year, when it cost almost €80.24.
For gasoline vehicles, filling an average tank (55 liters) currently costs around €81.56, about €5.90 less than in 2024, when it cost around €87.45.
The average price of a liter of diesel remains significantly below the levels it was at before the outbreak of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, when it was €1.479 per liter. Gasoline, meanwhile, also remains below the price of €1.591 per liter it had at that time.
Likewise, both fuels remain far from the peaks they reached in the summer of 2022, in July, when gasoline reached €2.141 and diesel reached €2.1.
Diesel has now been below the price of gasoline for 128 weeks. This maintains the same level of price that prevailed before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which caused the price of diesel to be higher than gasoline continuously from August 2022 until mid-February 2023, when the trend was disrupted.
Fuel prices depend on multiple factors, such as their specific price (independent of oil prices), the trend in crude oil prices, taxes, raw material and logistics costs, and gross margins.
Furthermore, the evolution of crude oil prices is not directly reflected in fuel prices, but rather is reflected over time.
PRICES IN SPAIN ARE CHEAPER THAN THE EUROPEAN AVERAGE.
At these levels, the price of 95-grade unleaded gasoline in Spain remains below the European Union average, at €1.618 per liter, and the eurozone average, at €1.667.
In the case of diesel, the price in Spain is also lower than the EU average, which is €1.540, and the eurozone average, where it is €1.567.
