The warning went into effect at 6:15 a.m. on August 31, 2025, and was updated at 9:15 a.m. that same day. The phenomenon is the result of an atmospheric disturbance associated with a humid and unstable air mass, which generates conditions conducive to the formation of storms in several departments.

🔴 In areas under warning, intense electrical activity, significant rainfall accumulations in short periods, occasional hail, and strong wind gusts may occur. While temporary improvements may occur, the phenomenon will continue to be monitored for changes in its evolution.

🔴 Departments directly affected: Artigas, Paysandú, Río Negro, Salto, Soriano, and Tacuarembó (entire territory). In Colonia, the warning is in effect for Agraciada, Campana, Carmelo, Cerro Carmelo, Florencio Sánchez, and Ombúes de Lavalle. In Durazno, it affects Baygorria; in Flores, Andresito and Ismael Cortinas; and in Rivera, Masoller. Also included are Arerunguá, Piedra Sola, and Tambores in Tacuarembó.

🔴 According to meteorologists, the combination of warm, humid air and atmospheric instability increases the likelihood of severe weather in specific areas of the country. Although the warning remains at yellow level, the possibility of severe storms exceeds 75%, so extreme caution is recommended.

🔴 Inumet urges the public to stay informed through official channels and follow basic safety measures during thunderstorms: avoid outdoor activities, stay away from trees and metal structures, stay away from waterways, and secure loose objects that could be blown away by the wind.

🔴 The phenomenon can cause intense rainfall in short periods, increasing the risk of temporary flooding in both urban and rural areas. Local authorities are on alert for possible complications and urge residents to exercise extreme caution while driving.
