It's been a relationship that's lasted more than 20 years, but Honeymoon with Harry It's a love story that Hollywood can't give up.
Amazon MGM has acquired the rights to the long-time work, setting Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal star
Glenn Stay and John Requa are on board to direct the project, which is being scripted by Dan Fogelman . The trio were behind the drama Crazy, Stupid, Love and worked together on the Fogelman-created Hulu series Paradise .
The project has been in the works since 2004 and is based on a published romance by Bart Baker, told the story of a man (Gyllenhaal), when he decides to go on a honeymoon with his famous father (Costner) after his fiancée dies two days before the wedding.
Fogelman is producing alongside Gulfstream Pictures' Mike Karz. Another notable name on the producer list is former Amazon MGM boss Jennifer Salke, who will produce through her newly launched Sullivan Street Production banner. Honeymoon with Harry will mark Salke's first project with Amazon MGM and her production debut.
Karz first created Honeymooners at New Line Cinema for 21 years, and it always attracted A-list acclaim. Paul Haggis, the filmmaker behind the Oscar-winning Crash , wrote a draft and would go on to direct a version that made Vince Vaughn and Jack Nicholson buzz. Jonathan Demme also flirted with him when he had a script for Jenny Lumet, the writer of Rachel Is Getting Married and co-creator of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds .
Fogelman first signed on to write the film in 2015, when New Line had Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro as the intended leads. In 2017, Nick Cassavetes joined the team directly.
Karz never gave up, and when the rights ended, he worked tenaciously to find a new home, maintaining Fogelman's version.
Honeymoon and her Gulfstream pictures with Amazon MGM, while recently produced the romantic comedy Updated starring Camila Mendes, and One Fast Move starring KJ APA and Eric Dane, for streamer.
Gyllenhaal is an Amazon favorite thanks to starring in last year's remake of Highway , which has become one of the streamer's biggest hits of all time. A sequel is gearing up for later this fall. The actor also starred in Apple TV+' s Presumed Innocent, which put him in the Emmy race this year with a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
Costner, or Dances with Wolves Oscar winner and former Yellowstone spent the last few years working on his passion project, Horizon: An American Saga, an ambitious multi-part Western. Only two of the four parts were made, and only the first part was released.
Gyllenhaal is repped by WME and Goodman, Genow, while Costner is repped by WME.
Stay and Requa are repped by CAA, and McKuin Frankel and Fogelman are repped by WME.
