Juan Pablo Piscetta, union delegate at Infobae and secretary of the Buenos Aires Press Union (SiPreBA), is at the center of a serious complaint that links his work with a foreign intelligence structure. The research on the Russian disinformation network in Argentina revealed that the leader published articles financed by the Kremlin within the news portal without the consent or knowledge of the media's management. This finding unleashed a massive claim within the newsroom, where his own colleagues demanded his removal and immediate dismissal for violating the basic principles of journalistic ethics.
The operational scheme consisted of the insertion of specific content aimed at destabilizing the management of Javier Milei and promote narratives favorable to Moscow's interests. According to the data that emerged from the investigation, the delegate would have received payments close to 1,000 dollars for the publication of two articles that followed the editorial line dictated by the Russian propaganda structure. This maneuver was carried out taking advantage of its access to the media's publishing platform, circumventing the usual editorial controls that Infobae applies to its organic content.
The implication of Juan Pablo Piscetta in the Russian disinformation network
The role of Juan Pablo Piscetta is particularly sensitive due to his dual role as journalist and union representative. By being part of the Internal Union Commission, the person involved has jurisdiction that protects his job stability, which currently represents the main legal obstacle for the company to proceed with his termination. However, the discomfort among the media's press workers is total, since they consider that the use of a professional platform for foreign intelligence operations compromises the credibility of the entire editorial team.
The disinformation network that financed these notes not only operated in Infobae. It is estimated that the structure linked to the government of Vladimir Putin managed to leak more than 250 articles in at least 20 Argentine media since 2024. The central objective of these publications has been to amplify social polarization, attack the economic plan of the libertarian administration and position messages contrary to foreign policy alignment with the United States. To give it the appearance of legitimacy, the network even used fake identities generated with artificial intelligence to sign opinion columns on other portals.
Scope of the operation in the Argentine media
The judicial and journalistic investigation has identified an extensive list of media where Russian propaganda managed to insert paid content. These include news channels such as C5N and A24, as well as portals such as Ámbito, El Destape, Tiempo Argentino and El Cronista. In most cases, the articles presented systematic criticism of the country's governance, using narratives designed in foreign communication laboratories to influence local public opinion.
Unlike other media where the pattern could have been institutional, the case that occurred in Infobae stands out for having been an individual maneuver executed by a member of its internal structure. The SiPreBA union, where the person involved holds a hierarchical position, has not yet issued an official statement on the situation of its secretary, which increases tension in the union assemblies of the press sector.
The obstacle of union privileges
The management of Infobae analyzes the legal steps to follow to achieve the delegate's immunity. The journalist's statute and the Law of Trade Union Associations establish rigorous protections, but there are precedents where the violation of professional ethics and damage to the image of the media can justify a process of removal of union protection. Meanwhile, the editorial staff maintains the request for an exemplary sanction that completely separates union activity from intelligence operations financed by foreign powers.
The articles published under this scheme have been withdrawn or flagged after the start of the internal audit. The case has become a warning for the entire media ecosystem about the vulnerability of publishing systems to "insiders" who operate for international propaganda networks.
