Perciballe testified before Parliament and suggested that he was transferred to protect someone.

Prosecutor Ricardo Perciballe appeared before Parliament and acknowledged that his transfer in 2012 could have been to avoid the prosecution of a high-profile figure. Opposition legislators are seeking clarification regarding what they considered an implicit revelation.

Prosecutor Ricardo Perciballe suggested to Parliament that his transfer in 2012 was due to pressure to avoid the prosecution of a prominent figure.

Prosecutor Ricardo Perciballe appeared before the parliamentary committee this Wednesday and hinted at a possible institutional maneuver against him that occurred in 2012. Legislators from the Colorado and National Parties interpreted his transfer at that time not as administrative reasons, but as a decision to halt the progress of a judicial case involving a prominent figure.

The statement that sparked the controversy arose from a question from Representative Gustavo Salle. "Is there any basis for saying that his transfer was to avoid the prosecution of someone important?" the legislator asked. According to what Colorado Senator Andrés Ojeda read at a press conference, Perciballe responded: "There is some basis for that, but I can't say it."

For Ojeda, the answer is overwhelming. "He asked us to infer things he can't declare," the legislator asserted. In his view, the prosecutor is limited by regulations that prevent him from making certain situations public, but he raised a scenario that should be thoroughly investigated.

From the Nationalist party, Senator Javier García also expressed his concern. He maintained that the judiciary must offer guarantees and transparency, and that what was revealed merits a serious institutional analysis. "When a prosecutor admits that there were unclear reasons behind his transfer, we are facing a warning sign," he said.

Perciballe's transfer was ordered in 2012 by then-Attorney General Jorge Díaz. At the time, it was considered just another internal move, but as time passed, doubts began to arise about the real motivations. The recent statement in Parliament rekindles those suspicions.

“Parliament is once again investigating shady decisions that plagued the Prosecutor's Office in 2012.”

The parliamentary committee is now evaluating whether new testimony will be summoned or additional documentation will be requested. Perciballe's brief but eloquent statement could mark the beginning of a new phase in the review of the Prosecutor's Office's actions in previous years.
