MADRID, 19 (EUROPA PRESS)
Spanish tennis player Jessica Bouzas has bowed out of the Monterrey (Mexico) WTA 500 hard court tournament after losing in the first round on Monday to Russian Kamilla Rakhimova (6-4, 7-5).
The Galician, world number 42, took a 3-2 lead in the first set after breaking her opponent's serve, who responded with a counterbreak and won the next three games. She broke again in the ninth game, but Rakhimova took the set on return.
Already in the second set, both contenders traded a couple of breaks to reach 5-5. The Russian tennis player won her next serve, but Bouzas couldn't respond and lost her serve to say goodbye after just over an hour and a half of fighting.
Now, the Vilagarcía de Arousa native, who reached the round of 16 in Cincinnati—where she fell to world number one Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus—is already looking ahead to the US Open, her fourth and final Grand Slam of the season.
