Iranian officials warned Monday that a new war with Israel could break out "at any moment," statements that come more than two months after the exchange of attacks between the two countries known as the Twelve-Day War, which left more than 1,000 dead in Iran and nearly 30 in Israel.
"Today we find ourselves in the aftermath of an imposed war. We are not in a ceasefire, but in a state of ceasefire, so we are prepared to confront the enemy at any time," said Iran's First Vice President, Mohamed Reza Aref, in statements reported by the Mehr news agency.
However, he asserted that Tehran's strategy "is to resolve problems through negotiations," but added that they are "concerned about whether the other side believes in them or not." "We are not seeking war, but our strategy is that if they start a war, we will put an end to it," he added.
The conflict erupted on June 13, when Israel launched a military offensive against the Central Asian country—which responded by firing missiles and drones at Israeli territory—and was followed by the United States on June 22 with a series of bombings against three Iranian nuclear facilities. A ceasefire has been in effect since June 24.
