Inumet issues yellow and orange alerts for intense winds: affected areas and recommendations

He Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) has issued new yellow and orange alerts for the night of this Tuesday, April 7, due to the presence of intense and sustained winds, as a consequence of an extratropical cyclone that is affecting our territory. This meteorological phenomenon is a cause for concern and requires attention from the population.

Starting at 9:00 p.m., a yellow alert will come into force, in which sustained winds are anticipated that will range between 40 and 60 km/h, with gusts that may reach between 60 and 80 km/h, coming from the southeast and south sector. This situation will be generated as an atmospheric depression deepens in the south of the country, which will increase the intensity of the wind in several locations.

The main towns affected by this yellow alert are:

Cannelloni: Aguas Corrientes, Atlántida, Barra de Carrasco, Barros Blancos, Camino del Andaluz and Ruta 84, Ciudad de la Costa, Colonia Nicolich, El Pinar, Empalme Olmos, Estación Atlántida, Joaquín Suárez, Juanicó, La Paz, Las Piedras, Los Cerrillos, Marindia, Neptunia, Pando, Paso Carrasco, Pinamar – Pinepark, Progreso, Ruta 74, Salinas, San Antonio, Santa Lucía, Santa Rosa, Sauce, Toledo, Villa Aeroparque, Villa Crespo, San Andrés, Villa Felicidad and Villa San José.

Cologne: The entire department is under notice.

Flowers: Cerro Colorado and La Casilla.

Florida: August 25, May 25, Cardal and Independence.

Montevideo: The entire department will be affected.

Black River: Fray Bentos, Los Arrayanes and New Berlin.

Saint Joseph: Capurro, Ciudad del Plata, Ecilda Paullier, Juan Soler, Kiyú-Ordeig, Libertad, Mal Abrigo, Puntas de Valdez, Rafael Perazza, Rodríguez, San José de Mayo and Villa María.

Soriano: The entire department.

At 00:00 this Wednesday, April 8, a orange alert, which indicates greater severity in climatic conditions. During this phase, sustained winds are expected that will vary between 60 and 70 km/h, with gusts that could reach 80 and 90 km/h, also coming from the southeast and south sectors. This intensification of wind can lead to additional risks, such as falling branches and possible power interruption.
