A police vehicle overturned just after midnight on Sunday on the Interbalnearia Highway, at kilometer 43, in the Villa Argentina area, according to the Highway Police.
The patrol car went off course and ended up overturned between the road and the shoulder. Two officers were traveling in the vehicle and were injured as a result of the accident.
The 35-year-old driver was diagnosed with multiple injuries and temporary loss of consciousness and was taken to the Police Hospital in Montevideo. His 26-year-old passenger suffered similar injuries and was taken to a health center in the city of Pando.
Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene and worked to secure the area until the vehicle was removed. No other vehicles were reported involved in the accident at this time.
The accident adds to a series of recent incidents involving police vehicles across the country, raising concerns about road safety and the work environment of officers.
