This year, the 'la Caixa' Foundation has organized more than 19,000 activities involving more than 540,000 seniors to promote their active participation and highlight their role in society.

The workshops and activities, which aim to holistically address their needs, interests, and concerns, promoting their physical and emotional well-being, contribute to their empowerment so they can pursue their own personal project and enjoy a life of purpose and meaning.

The foundation estimates that, based on current demographic trends, by 2031, 25% of the Spanish population will be over 65 years old. Therefore, following the increase in life expectancy, one of its current challenges is to improve healthy longevity.

Specifically, they have held workshops to promote physical health, well-being, and the prevention of frailty. These workshops are designed to comprehensively stimulate the sensory, motor, and cognitive areas so that older adults can remain active and maintain healthy lifestyle habits, and to contribute to improving their quality of life.

They have also launched activities to encourage older adults' growth, reflection, and empowerment to lead the life they want in accordance with their values. Seniors have also been able to participate in workshops to provide them with the tools and resources they need to navigate this new digital landscape and feel involved. Since its inception, more than 10,000 older adults from all over Spain have enrolled in these workshops, either on their home computers or in the computer labs at senior centers.

In addition, solidarity initiatives have been promoted in which older adults have been able to participate by sharing their experiences and contributing to the social integration of the most vulnerable groups. Initiatives have also been established to foster imagination, as well as to promote the pursuit of sensitivity and awareness of personal skills to make sense of a person's reality.

As a new feature, for this upcoming academic year, the "la Caixa" Foundation will promote the workshop "Ageism: How to Detect and Prevent It." This workshop aims to provide older adults with tools to address ageism and, in turn, become active agents in raising awareness in their communities through volunteering.

"All the activities we promote aim to help seniors acquire new knowledge, recognize their existing skills, and discover new ones to enhance them. To achieve this, we develop innovative and rigorous content in the program that promotes health, relationships, well-being, personal development, and a full life, in addition to encouraging social participation," emphasizes David Velasco, director of the Seniors Program at the 'la Caixa' Foundation.
