Guy Pearce to star as Rupert Murdoch in Danny Boyle's film

Guy Pearce Leaving his recent Oscar nomination, he's circling a lead role as media mogul Rupert Murdoch .

Pearce is in negotiations to direct Danny Boyle's film Ink that is set to focus on Murdoch's rise to power. The film, which Studio and House Productions also have, also stars Jack O'Connell, who looks like Larry Lamb, the late editor of The Sun.

Boyle Helms The film from a script by James Graham, who adapted his play of the same name that opened in London in 2017. In his 2019 review for The Hollywood Reporter of the two-Tony-winning Broadway run, critic David Rooney wrote that the play "has undeniable currency in the era of Brexit and Trump."

Ink is set in 1969 and centers on Murdoch acquiring the struggling newspaper The Sun and hiring Lamb to run it. The film crew plans to begin filming in October.

Boyle, Tessa Ross, Michael Ellenberg, Tracey Seaward and Tonia Davis serve as producers on the film.

Pearce was nominated at the Academy Awards for his supporting role in The Brutalist . His upcoming films include The Woman in Cabin 10 and Dog Star .

O'Connell had a breakout year, having played memorable roles in The Losers and the Boyle-directed 28 Years Later . His upcoming projects include 28 Years Later: Temple of Bones and Godzilla x Kong: Supernova .

Most recently directed by Boyle 28 Years Later The final installment of the franchise launched with its original 2002 film, 28 Days Later . Sony released 28 Years Later In June starring Jodie Era, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and O'Connell-e the film surpassed $ 150 million at the global box office.
