MADRID, 15 (EUROPA PRESS)
Liverpool strengthened their squad this Friday with the signing of Italian defender Giovanni Leoni from Serie A side Parma, who will wear the number 15 on his red shirt.
"Liverpool FC has completed the signing of defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma, subject to international clearance and a successful work permit application," the English club announced, with the player already in the Anfield stands for his new team's Premier League debut against Bournemouth.
The 18-year-old joins the Premier League champions after passing a medical and agreeing to a long-term contract on Friday. Leoni excelled in Italy during his sole season with Serie A side Parma in 2024-25, making 17 appearances and scoring one goal.
"I'm really happy to be here. It's a really great feeling, and I'm honored to be here. I'm very honored. I was really happy. When I saw it, I said, 'Wow, this is crazy!' I'm very happy," he said in his first remarks.
Leoni began his professional career with Padova in March 2023, just three months after turning 16. He spent the second half of the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Serie B side Sampdoria before being signed permanently by Parma last summer.
