If the future of the girls and boys of the Community of Madrid were decided today, many would want to work for a company where Aitana was the boss, while the boys would choose to work under the command of French footballer Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid forward.

This is the conclusion of the 19th "What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up" survey conducted by Adecco, which draws a map of aspirations with the Catalan singer leading the ranking of female bosses most desired by women (20.8%), followed by astronaut Sara García (13.5%), their mothers (8.3%), Lalachus (6.7%), Lola Índigo (4.7%), and Aitana Bonmatí (3.6%). In addition, 2.9% would be willing to work for a friend.

For children, the ideal leader is soccer player Mbappé (22.8%), followed by tennis player Carlos Alcaraz (18.9%), their parents (12.3%), streamer Ibai Llanos (11.8%), and also friends (10.1%). Also making the ranking are presenter David Broncano, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, and astronaut Pablo Álvarez.

The study, which included Madrid children between the ages of 4 and 16, also shows that their career aspirations are very similar to previous editions of the study.

The document, reviewed by Europa Press, also reveals that women continue to primarily want to be teachers (21.2%). In second place is soccer (17.7%), followed by veterinarian (12.6%), doctor (7.3%), and psychologist (6.1%). Rounding out the top positions are professions such as singer, hairdresser, and architect.

They, on the other hand, prefer to be soccer players (23%), police officers (16.1%), YouTubers (14.3%), computer scientists (13.8%), or firefighters (10.2%). Furthermore, the top 10 also includes aspirations to be engineers, chefs, lawyers, basketball players, or astronauts.

THE SELF-EMPLOYED OF TOMORROW ARE ALREADY THINKING ABOUT STARTING A BUSINESS

Regarding their future career prospects, 59.2% of boys and 61.7% of girls say they would like to become entrepreneurs, with interests ranging from fashion and beauty businesses to pet companies, healthcare, gastronomy, sports, the animal world, motorsports, and gaming.

By type of business, they want to open fashion and beauty businesses (22.6%), pet businesses (17.5%), businesses related to the healthcare sector (13.9%), or gastronomy (9.2%).

For their part, they prefer companies linked to the sports world, such as a sports store or soccer school (26.3%), animal-related businesses, such as a veterinary clinic (13.4%), gaming businesses, such as the PS5 (10.2%), or the automotive world, such as a sports car dealership (7.7%). Among the most original proposals, they highlighted the creation of an influencer agency or an airplane business.

In this edition, technology and robots again feature heavily in the survey. In fact, 56.2% of boys and 49.3% of girls would like to share work with a robot. In this regard, half of them admit to having already used generative Artificial Intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, both for studying (55.9%), answering questions (36.8%), and playing (7.3%).

MORE SALARY OR MORE FREE TIME?

Among their priorities, girls in Madrid most value having free time in the future (71.4%), even if it means a lower salary, while boys prefer earning more money (70.8%), even if it means less free time. In both cases, around 51% don't want to work at the same company or in the same type of job their entire lives.

The Adecco survey also focused on the keys to finding a job. Young people from Madrid who will enter the workforce in the future believe that finding a job requires a good attitude (25.3%), solid education (19.6%), personal traits such as kindness, politeness, loyalty, or responsibility (13.8%), and good skills and competencies such as intelligence, creativity, or listening skills (12%).

In this last area, respondents also responded with "knowing how to tell stories," "knowing how to use a computer," "not talking too much," and "suck up to the boss." Also highlighted was camaraderie (7.6%) and language skills (6.5%).

RETIREMENT WILL COME… “WHEN MY MOTHER SAYS SO”

Regarding retirement, the majority believe they will be able to retire between the ages of 60 and 69 (30.8%) or between 50 and 59 (12.4%). On the other hand, 12.2% of those surveyed think they will never retire. Others, however, believe that retirement will only come "when my mother says so."

And what about when the golden retirement arrives? This time, Adecco points out that, unlike past editions, the 2025 survey shows marked differences between the sexes.

Thus, women prioritize spending time with family (30.3%), traveling (21.6%), starting an NGO (13.6%), pursuing their hobbies (5.2%), or having fun (4.8%). Men from Madrid, on the other hand, prefer to enjoy traveling (31.8%), having fun (14.2%), working (10.1%), spending time with family (7.1%), and pursuing hobbies (4.9%).

Going to the village, writing a book, or giving talks to young people so they can learn about life have been other popular options for enjoying retirement.
