The Uruguayan Meteorological Institute (Inumet) issued a special warning for the arrival of an extratropical cyclone that will begin affecting the country in the early hours of Tuesday the 19th.

According to the report, sustained winds of between 40 and 60 kilometers per hour are expected, with gusts that could reach between 60 and 80 km/h. The phenomenon is linked to the deepening of a low-pressure system located off the west coast.

In addition to the gusts, the cyclone will be accompanied by heavy rains and occasional thunderstorms that will move southeastward. Areas south of the Río Negro will be the most affected, with rainfall that could extend into the afternoon of Wednesday the 20th.

The forecast also indicates that the winds will begin to decrease only around dawn on Thursday the 21st, marking the end of the weather episode.

Inumet recommended that the public stay informed through official channels and take precautions against potential complications with mobility and services.
