Explosion at Puente de Vallecas: the operation, the victims, and the investigation

A powerful explosion at the Mis Tesoros bar, on Manuel Maroto Street in Puente de Vallecas, left 14 people injured and damaged the building above it on Saturday. The attack was not intentional: according to emergency crews, it was a gas explosion that occurred around 3:00 PM and also impacted residential buildings. Firefighters and medical teams mounted an emergency operation while the police closed off streets and secured the perimeter.

Madrid explosion: firefighters' response and debris removal

Madrid City Council deployed 18 firefighter units to the scene to clear debris, stabilize the structure, and prevent further collapse. At the same time, 13 SAMUR (Civil Protection) units and SUMMA 112 personnel are treating victims and searching for people trapped in the wreckage. The area remains cordoned off, with traffic regulated by the Local Police to facilitate emergency operations.

Bar Mis Tesoros: extent of damage and evacuations

The commercial premises were seriously damaged, and the upper apartments suffered damage from the blast wave and partial masonry collapse. Residents were evacuated as a precaution and remain outside the building until its structural safety is confirmed. Fire crews are taking measurements and carrying out spot reinforcements before allowing residents to return.

Injured victims: condition and medical

Of the 14 people treated at the scene, thirteen had minor injuries and one was in serious condition, according to health services. Medical teams stabilized the injured on-site and transferred the most seriously injured to medical centers. Health authorities continue to evaluate and monitor each patient.

Madrid Emergencies and Technological Support

Police's Air Support Section deployed drones to map damage and assist in the search for potential victims trapped in the rubble. These tools facilitate debris clearance planning and reduce risks for rescuers. The efforts are being coordinated by firefighters, SAMUR (National Emergency Management Agency), SUMMA (National Emergency Management Agency), and the Local Police to prioritize safety and response.

Causes and ongoing investigation

At this time, there is no confirmed cause; experts and technicians are working to determine whether the explosion was due to a gas leak or another cause. Authorities announced that the investigation will continue in the coming hours with technical inspections and witness interviews. Meanwhile, access to the building will remain restricted until its stability is assessed.
