The trade deficit rises by 58.7% until June, with exports at record levels.

The trade deficit stood at €25.113 billion in the first half of the year, a 58.7% increase compared to the €15.822 billion deficit recorded in the same period in 2024, according to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business' Monthly Foreign Trade Report.

This result was a result of a 1% increase in Spanish merchandise exports in the first six months of the year, reaching €197.151 billion, the second-highest figure for a first half of the year, and a 5.4% increase in imports, reaching €222.263 billion.

The coverage rate (ratio of exports to imports as a percentage) stood at 88.7% through June, 3.8 percentage points lower than the same period in 2024.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the countries with which the Spanish economy registered the largest surpluses were France (9.993 billion euros ), Portugal (8.392 billion) and the United Kingdom (7.617 billion).

Exports to the United States, meanwhile, stood at €8.75 billion in the first half of the year, down 5.1% compared to the same period in 2024.
