Diane Lane is not happy with Dylan O'Brien's choice of girlfriend in the Birthday trailer .
León Langa's thriller feature from director Jan Komasa hits theaters October 29. Kyle Chandler, Madeline Brewer, Zoey Deutch , Phoebe Dynevor , McKenna Grace, and Daryl McCormack round out the cast.
Birthday It focuses on a family torn apart when Josh (O'Brien) brings home his girlfriend, Liz (Dynevor), who was a student of his mother Ellen (Lane) and has a controversial past.
"Our son's new girlfriend is a former student," Lane says in the trailer. "She's radical in her ideology." Later, Lane adds, "I don't think it's a coincidence that she's attached to Josh."
In a different scene, O'Brien confronts Lane about his feelings for Dynevor. "Can you pretend to be happy for me?" O'Brien asks. "You couldn't bend it your way. It drives you crazy."
Komasa ( Good Guy ) directed the film from a screenplay by Lori Rosene-Gambino, with the story credited to Komasa and Rosene-Gambino. Serving as producers are Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz, Paula Mae Schwartz and Kate Churchill.
O'Brien's recent films include Ponyboi Like This, Saturday Night and Caddo Lake . His upcoming resource projects include Twin Like This, Send Help and Being Heumann .
Lane's recent credits include the Netflix series A Whole Man and a voice role in Inside 2.
