A symbolic event in Buenos Aires brought together three Uruguayan presidents in a democratic context.

In Buenos Aires, Orsi, Lacalle Pou, and Sanguinetti were recognized for their commitment to democratic coexistence at an event organized by the Anne Frank Center.

Former presidents Luis Lacalle Pou and Julio María Sanguinetti Buenos Aires on Monday , where they, along with current President Yamandú Orsi, were honored by the Anne Frank Center . The institution presented them with an award in recognition of their commitment to peaceful and democratic coexistence , in a ceremony filled with political symbolism and institutional respect.

After the event, former President Lacalle Pou spoke with the press and emphasized the importance of the gesture, beyond political differences. "We came to support our president and our democracy," he said. He also emphasized that, while there are nuances with the country's current leadership and a direction he considers not entirely appropriate, these types of events serve to strengthen shared values. "Uruguay has a democracy in dissent, which is very important," he stressed.

For his part, Julio María Sanguinetti avoided entering into local controversies and highlighted the international reach of Uruguayan democracy. "We didn't come to discuss the everyday anecdotes that are discussed there. This is a tribute that recognizes something much larger: the republican coexistence that Uruguay enjoys," he explained.

During his speech, he also reflected on the way the country is viewed, both from outside and inside. "Countries only grow if they are believed in, if those outside believe and those inside believe," he stated, highlighting the value of sharing experiences and building through dialogue, even with those who have had profound differences in the past. He mentioned the case of the Caja de Profesionales (Professional Fund) , recalling disagreements with the Frente Amplio (Broad Front) that, in his words, "unfortunately passed."

The event in Buenos Aires left a rare impression in current Uruguayan politics: three presidents, from different political parties, sharing the stage, speeches, and a single award. Beyond the differences, the message was clear: democracy and republican coexistence remain fundamental pillars of Uruguayan identity.
