The president of the National Party's Board of Directors, Álvaro Delgado , addressed the controversy surrounding the president of ASSE, Leonardo Danza , this Monday, following allegations that he holds medical appointments at two mutual insurance companies in Montevideo. This practice is prohibited by both the law that regulates the organization and by Article 200 of the Constitution.

Speaking to the press, Delgado maintained that the issue had not yet been formally discussed by the Board, but made his position clear: "As long as that's true, he can't remain in office for another minute. That's clear, there's no doubt about it .

Express incompatibility

The nationalist leader added that Danza's situation falls under a clear incompatibility. "There is a clear incompatibility. And the truth is, this is a real repetition. It happened with the president of Colonization, who was appointed despite the law preventing him from doing so, and when it became evident, he had to resign. And apparently the same thing is going to happen with this ," he noted.

According to Delgado, the government will have no choice but to ask him to resign. "I think the government will have to ask him to resign ," he emphasized.

The background of the case

The complaint arose from a news report by Radio Carve, which revealed that Danza maintains medical practice in private mutual health insurance companies in Montevideo. Regulations stipulate that ASSE Board members cannot hold positions in private health institutions to avoid conflicts of interest.

The episode rekindled tensions between the ruling party and the opposition, in a political context where questions had already arisen over incompatible appointments in other state agencies.
