The president of the Broad Front, Fernando Pereira , stated that if any irregularities are confirmed in the performance of ASSE leader Leonardo Danza , the necessary measures will be taken. His statements came after the release of a journalistic investigation that indicated that Danza treats patients at mutual insurance companies in Montevideo, something prohibited by regulations for members of the organization's board of directors.
"If there's something that prevents him from working, he won't work. If there's something that's against the law or wrong, it will be changed. The Broad Front governs with the Constitution under its belt," Pereira said at a press conference.
The leader also took aim at the opposition, accusing them of trying to block the ruling party's administration. "They want to silence us. They're desperate to keep us from governing, to block absolutely everything," he stated.
Journalistic investigation
The program Así nos va ) on Carve radio revealed that Danza maintains internist appointments at two mutual insurance companies, despite having received a legal report confirming the compatibility of his teaching and consulting duties. According to the outlet, the official visits outpatient clinics at least twice a week.
The complaint sparked a strong reaction within the political system. The Colorado Party , through its National Executive Committee, decided to demand Danza's resignation. Senator Andrés Ojeda maintained that it was not enough for him to leave the mutual insurance company and demanded that, if he does not resign voluntarily, President Yamandú Orsi remove him from office.
Cross-reactions
Meanwhile, Presidential Secretary Álvaro Delgado was categorical: "As long as that's true, he can't remain in office for another minute."
The controversy created a climate of political tension. The ruling party insists on waiting for verification of the facts, while the opposition increases public pressure to finalize the ASSE president's resignation.
