MADRID, 21 (EUROPA PRESS)
Croatian footballer Josip Brekalo, 27, officially became Real Oviedo's new striker for the next two seasons on Thursday, having established himself as "one of the most promising players" in his country's football "from a young age."
This was highlighted by Oviedo on its website after the agreement reached for the striker to play for the Asturian capital club until June 30, 2027. Born on June 23, 1998, in Zagreb, he "grew up through the youth ranks of Dinamo Zagreb, one of the most powerful clubs in his country," the press release added.
"He made his first-team debut on December 19, 2015, in a match against Inter Zapresic. His strong performances and impressive performances led to his transfer to VfL Wolfsburg on May 15, 2016. It was in Germany that he exploded, producing his best goals and assists," the same report said.
"With over 100 matches under his belt in the German top flight, the striker scored a total of 17 goals and logged over 6,800 minutes of play between VfL Wolfsburg and VfB Stuttgart," summarized the press release about Brekalo's time in the Bundesliga.
"In the 2021/2022 campaign, Brekalo headed to Italy and played on loan at Torino, where he scored seven goals in 33 appearances. Fiorentina was also interested in the Croatian international's services for part of the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons," the statement said.
"After returning to his home country in the 2023/24 season to defend the colors of Hajduk Split, the winger played for Turkish club Kasimpasa last season, where he scored four goals and provided two assists," the Carbayón team said in its press release.
Finally, the article highlighted Brekalo's "constant presence in the various categories of the Croatian national team, establishing himself as one of the most promising players in national football from an early age." "His development in the youth teams was key to his international projection and led him to make the leap to the senior team," the statement concluded.
