The Colombian Prosecutor's Office charged four of those involved in the murder of senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe with aggravated homicide on Wednesday. Uribe died Monday after being hospitalized for two months after being shot several times in the back during a campaign event outside Bogotá.
"The Prosecutor's Office has charged four of the alleged suspects with aggravated homicide in the planning and execution of the assassination of Senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, which took place on June 7 in western Bogotá," the statement announced.
Those affected by the measure are Elder José Arteaga Hernández –alias 'El Costeño', alleged mastermind of the attack, Cristian González Ardila –the 15-year-old minor who shot Uribe–, Katherine Andrea Martínez –alias 'Gabriela', who gave the young man the murder weapon, a Glock pistol– and William Fernando González Cruz, who allegedly transported 'El Costeño' and 'Grabiela' after the attack.
The Prosecutor's Office has also charged Martínez and González Cruz with "aggravated conspiracy to commit a crime" after obtaining new evidence.
"These four people are formally linked, based on their possible involvement in the crime, to various offenses and remain in custody," the agency stated, although the investigation remains open with a view to "identifying other people involved" in the attack.
Miguel Uribe Turbay died this Monday after being seriously wounded by two gunshots to the head and leg during a campaign event held on June 7 in the town of Fontibón, in Bogotá, the country's capital.
