EU observers are not aware of any major incidents beyond isolated tensions.

MADRID, 17 (EUROPA PRESS)

Bolivian presidential candidate Andrónico Rodríguez escaped a hail of stones thrown by supporters of former President Evo Morales on Sunday after casting his vote in Sunday's elections, which are proceeding without major incidents, according to the EU observer mission.

Rodríguez, considered a "traitor" by Morales supporters—who has disassociated himself from these elections and called for a null vote—managed to vote at the José Carrasco school in the municipality of Entre Ríos, a "Evista" stronghold, when the stoning began.

The candidate was not initially injured and has not commented on incidents on social media. "We fulfilled our democratic vocation by casting our vote today. Thank you to my colleagues, leaders and former leaders of various unions and central offices in the Tropics for supporting me," he simply wrote on his social media account.

However, the head of the European Union (EU) mission in Bolivia, Davor Steir, has emphasized that election day in the country is proceeding normally and in a calm atmosphere.

"What we've seen is that the right to secrecy of the vote has been respected; we haven't recorded any incidents of campaigning in or around the polling stations. We've noticed a large presence of delegates from political organizations, which lends greater transparency to the entire electoral process," Steir told the media in a press conference reported by the Bolivian newspaper 'La Razón'.
