On October 3rd, Taylor Swift asked me what day it was and I was like… uhhh Mean Girls Day? Album release day?

For the past two decades, October 3rd has been unofficially known as Mean Girls Day, a reference to the iconic 2004 film starring Lindsay Lohan. However, Swift has decided to change things up.

The pop superstar revealed on Wednesday that her 12th album, A Showgirl's Life, will also be released on October 3, essentially claiming that day as her own this year. But she has a good reason.

The Grammy winners shared on a recent episode of the New Heights podcast, hosted by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his brother, Jason Kelce, that the album's 10/3 release date adds up to 13, which was Swift's lucky number since she was born on December 13, 1989.

"[It's] never annoying," the "Cruel Summer" singer joked, regarding his references to the number 13 throughout his music career. "I'll always try to force a 13 into a situation. And this one was there."

The first week of October is also special for the Kelce family, who are now close to the Swift family, because several family members have birthdays that month, including Travis, Jason, his mother Donna, and Jason's daughter Wyatt.

While Swift may have declared October 3rd as her day this year, Mean Girls fans have continued to keep the film's legacy alive over the years by referencing memorable scenes, including the October 3rd moment.

Toward the beginning of the film, Lohan's Cady Heron attempts to talk to her high school crush, Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett), more. In a voiceover, her character says, "On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was." Cady then replies in the scene, "It is October 3rd."

Lohan also recently revealed that they accidentally included a nod to the 2004 teen comedy in her new film, Freaky Friday , which sees the actress reunite with her Freaky Friday on-screen mom, Jamie Lee Curtis.

In the sequel, Lohan's Anna and Manny Jacinto's Eric scheduled their wedding for October 3. However, the actress told Collider Perri Nemiroff, "I really don't think anyone noticed," they included a Mean Girls Easter egg until Lohan pointed it out on the first day of filming when they saw the wedding invitations.

“I was like, ‘Does anyone realize this is October 3rd? That’s Mean Girls Day,'” she recalled. “I was like, ‘let’s just leave it, it’s an Easter egg,'” and Nisha [Ganatra, director] was like, “We’re not doing Easter eggs.” I’m like, “Well, you did it!””

Either way, there's plenty of room for all the Swifties and Mean Girls fans around the world to celebrate the iconic day together.
