Malian center Mariam Coulibaly became a new Spar Girona player for the 2025-26 season on Tuesday. She joined the club from Joventut Badalona as last season's most valuable player, according to a statement.
"Mariam Coulibaly (Bamako, Mali; 10/7/1997) is a new Spar Girona player for the upcoming season. The 192 cm, 27-year-old center joins from Club Joventut Badalona, where she has had one of the most dominant seasons of her career," the club announced.
Coulibaly trained at CB Islas Canarias, where she made her Liga Femenina debut in the 2015-16 season. She later signed for Snatt's Femení Sant Adrià, where she played two seasons in the LF Endesa, establishing herself as one of the league's most promising young centers.
In 2019, he made the leap to France, playing for Landerneau, and the following year he returned to the national top flight with IDK Euskotren, where he played for four seasons before signing for La Penya last summer.
The 2024-25 season was her best year in terms of statistics and individual recognition: 22 points per game on 61.6% two-point shooting, 10.8 rebounds, and an average PIR of 29, leading the league in this category. She has been named MVP of the matchday 12 times in 30 matchdays and has been part of the LF Endesa's best five.
With this move, the Girona club now has ten signings for next season. "We were looking for a classic center, with a presence in the paint. We've also added a very good hand, which makes her even more valuable," emphasized Pere Puig, Spar Girona's sporting director.
