'Ballad of a Small Player,' Nuremberg 'Join the San Sebastian line

Edward Berger and Colin Farrell's Ballad of a Little Player and Juliette Binoche's directorial debut are among the latest additions to the San Sebastian Film Festival lineup.

The Spanish film festival, which runs from September 19 to 27, confirmed on Tuesday that the Netflix film Berger, also starring Tilda Swinton and Speaks Chen, will debut outside of competition after its Conclave success at last year's edition. The film is an adaptation of Lawrence Osborne's novel, about an English transporter in the Macau gambling scene.

In the special exhibition section, French actress Binoche will present her directorial debut, In-i in Motion . The film is a non-fiction work, observing the experience of IN-I, the hybrid dance-theater performance Binoche produced in 2007 with dancer and choreographer Akram Khan.

Director James Vanderbilt will screen his next project, Nuremberg where Rami Malek in Vanderbilt's film.

Also appearing in the competition is Climb to Life , based on the true story of Japanese climber Junko Tabei, the first woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Its director, Junji Sakamoto, is best known for films such as Face (2000) and Children of Darkness (2008).

Claire Denis will return to San Sebastian with the competition feature Closer , starring Isaach de Bankolé, Matt Dillon, Mia McKenna-Bruce, and Tom Blyth. Elsewhere, Argentine filmmaker Dolores Fonzi will debut Belén , the festival also said, and Joachim Lafosse will present Six Days in Spring . These films join previously announced Bad Apples starring Saoirse Ronan, as well as Alice Winocour Couture starring Angelina Jolie centering the French fashion industry.
