The Senate session scheduled to question the Minister of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries, Alfredo Fratti, over the purchase of the María Dolores ranch ended in scandal and with the suspension of the debate due to "disorder in the chamber."
The incident occurred after midnight, after more than thirteen hours of exchange. According to the Senate's official statement, the president of the chamber at the time, Senator Sebastián Sabini, invoked Article 122, paragraph 7, of the regulations to adjourn the session after the atmosphere became unbearable.
The exchange began when Broad Front Senator Nicolás Viera accused Nationalist Sebastián Da Silva of taking the interpellation "to the mud" with a style based on "baseness" and "insults" both on social media and in the chamber. He also linked him to the company Conexión Ganadera, in which Da Silva had allegedly recommended investing, calling it "the biggest scam against Uruguayans."
The accusations sparked the fury of the White House legislator, who interrupted Viera with a shout: "Don't be so bold!" The Frente Amplio member continued his criticism, comparing the decline in business to "a Ferrari with its wheels up."
Visibly upset, Da Silva responded, "I won't allow that. Don't insult me like that," before launching into a resounding "Go fuck yourself!" accompanied by an obscene gesture with his middle finger. Viera reacted indignantly, and the exchange escalated until, as heard in the official recording, Da Silva insulted him by calling him a "fucking faggot."
Faced with the escalation, Sabini shut off the microphones and announced the suspension of the session, which was recorded around 4:45 a.m. on the official broadcast. The incident cut short the questioning and exposed a new chapter of political tension in the Uruguayan Parliament.
