At least seven people died this Sunday in the Kathua district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir due to severe flooding and landslides caused by monsoon rains in the area.
The region's Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, expressed his condolences for "the tragic loss of life and damage caused by landslides in several areas of Kathua district, including Jodh Khad and Juthana."
Numerous emergency teams have been deployed to the area to assist with rescue efforts and debris removal. This comes after flooding in the Kishtwar district claimed the lives of at least 60 people a few days ago.
According to the State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA), a total of 261 people have died between June 20 and August 16 in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh due to the monsoon season.
