MADRID, 21 (EUROPA PRESS)
At least seven people were killed in an Israeli army attack on a town in the Tyre Governorate in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, despite a ceasefire reached in November 2024.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed this toll in a statement released by the state news agency NNA, stating that Israeli forces attacked the municipality of Al Hawsh.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on its social media account X that it attacked "infrastructure, weapons depots and a launcher belonging" to the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah in the south of the Arab country, although it did not specify which location.
Israel justifies this type of aggression against Lebanon by arguing that it is acting against Hezbollah activities and, therefore, is not violating the ceasefire agreed upon in November. However, both Beirut and the group have been critical of these actions, which have also been condemned by the United Nations.
The agreement, reached after months of fighting following the attacks of October 7, 2023, stipulated that both Israel and Hezbollah would withdraw their troops from southern Lebanon. However, the Israeli army has maintained five posts in the territory of its neighboring country, a move also criticized by Lebanese authorities and the Shiite group, which is demanding an end to this deployment.
