A transgender teenager from Artigas is in serious condition after jumping from the roof of the Artigas Hospital last Monday night.
According to sources from INAU, the young woman is a resident of the organization's women's home in that department. The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m., when the teenager entered the ASSE grounds after running away during a field trip.
According to available information, the teenager managed to climb a ladder leading to a water tank on the hospital's roof, from where she jumped. She fell from a height of approximately 15 meters.
She was immediately treated by emergency medical personnel and subsequently underwent surgery. She is currently hospitalized in the intensive care unit of a local medical center with a broken leg and intra-abdominal injuries.

Authorities confirmed that the teenager had previously been hospitalized at the same hospital for mental health-related reasons .
Her personal story is marked by a complex family context. In 2021, her mother was the victim of a femicide . At the time, the young woman was 12 years old and was present during the crime. The perpetrator, her father, took his own life after being cornered by the police.
This latest episode once again highlighted the extreme vulnerability faced by adolescents with a history of violence and trauma in Uruguay , as well as the challenges of the youth care and support system under the INAU umbrella.
