LONDON, 19 (dpa/EP)

Arsenal has confirmed that 17 fans were sanctioned for "abusive and discriminatory behavior" last season, including six club members for online insults.

Each fan has been banned for a period of between one and three years, during which they will not be allowed to attend any Arsenal matches, whether at the Emirates Stadium or away from home.

Of the 11 violations committed at the stadium, three were for harassment or sexual language and two for racism. One of the online abuse incidents led to police action. Of the six, three were for death threats and two for homophobia.

The club continues to collaborate with the Metropolitan Police on nine other investigations, in which all supporters remain suspended pending the resolution of their cases.
