Alejandra Oliveras faces a critical health crisis after suffering an ischemic stroke.
After spending her second night at the José María Cullen Hospital in Santa Fe, Alejandra "Locomotora" Oliveras underwent emergency surgery this Wednesday after suffering an ischemic stroke. The procedure began just after noon, while the official information about the procedure was kept confidential.
The 47-year-old former boxer had been taken to the health center on Monday after experiencing episodes of disorientation. She was immediately transferred from the Santo Tomé clinic to the provincial hospital, where her condition was confirmed.
According to hospital director Bruno Moroni, Oliveras remains stable, although she still has paralysis on the left side of her body. "There has been no worsening of her motor condition. From a neurological standpoint, she remains drowsy, with some moments of increased connectivity," he explained.
The doctor also clarified that the patient has difficulty speaking, which is being monitored along with her other functions. "The blockage in the affected artery still persists, and work is being done to prevent further complications," he noted.
People close to the former world champion confirmed to Uruguay Al Día that the situation is delicate. Ariel Sclafani, a political figure in her party, said they are "very bitter" about the health of the leader of a key bloc in the Santa Fe constitutional convention.
The medical team insists it is still too early to talk about recovery or possible permanent after-effects. This is a "critical assessment period," during which further studies will be conducted to determine the next steps.
Since retiring from boxing in 2019, Oliveras has turned to politics. In 2021, she ran for national deputy and later joined the Ministry of National Security, specifically in the area of Security at Sporting Events. This year, she was elected as a constituent assembly member in Santa Fe, playing a key role in the discussion of constitutional reform.
His status, both because of his career and his reach among popular sectors, is seen as strategic within the provincial government. Therefore, the news of his health quickly spread in political and social circles.
Despite the severity of the patient's condition, the medical report stated that there had been no setbacks. "The positive thing is that his condition has not worsened," the hospital director concluded.
