The Gusanito Loco game was closed after the accident that left two people injured.

A video recorded by a visitor to Rodó Children's Park captured the exact moment of the accident that occurred Saturday afternoon, when a 2-year-old boy and his 67-year-old father fell from the ride known as Gusanito Manzana. The footage shows the boy was sitting on his father's lap, something that is expressly prohibited according to the ride's rules of use.

The accident occurred around 3:00 PM, while the ride was in motion. According to witnesses and initial reports, the child was thrown into the void. His father, in a desperate attempt to avoid the fall, also let go of his seat and ended up throwing himself off the moving ride. As a result, the adult suffered multiple injuries, and the child remains in the intensive care unit of a Montevideo hospital.

According to the rules established by the Montevideo City Council, children under six years old may ride accompanied by an adult, but each child must occupy their own seat and be properly restrained with a seat belt. Seating a child on a lap violates these rules.

The video, recorded from one of the front seats, shows that the child was not wearing a seatbelt or safety bar, but was instead on the adult's lap during the journey.

A park employee with 19 years of experience operating this type of ride stated that the Apple Worm has only one brake. Several witnesses reported hearing warning cries moments after the fall, demanding that the ride be stopped.

Following the incident, the Montevideo City Council closed the amusement ride as a precaution, and the Prosecutor's Office began investigating whether there were operational failures or criminal liability on the part of those in charge of the park. It is also analyzing whether all safety protocols were being followed at the time.

Meanwhile, the park area remains heavily policed, with security seals placed around the playground, awaiting investigations that will shed more light on what happened.
