A heavy hailstorm hit the Arapey Hot Springs this Saturday morning, blanketing everything in white. The National Meteorological Institute (INUMET) had issued a storm warning for the north of the country, which included heavy rain, gusts, and hail.
Hail covered roads, roofs, and green areas in Arapey in a matter of minutes.
A strong storm hit the Arapey Hot Springs area in the department of Salto this Saturday morning, surprising tourists and residents with intense hail that completely covered several areas of the hot springs complex.
The footage was quickly shared on social media, where images went viral showing how the hail covered grass, roads, and roofs in a matter of minutes. What should have been a peaceful day dawned white.
The Uruguayan Meteorological Institute (Inumet) had issued a warning for the entire northern region of the country, warning of "sometimes strong storms" during the morning and part of the afternoon.
The alert also warned of "intense electrical activity," short periods of heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and the possibility of hail. This combination hit the Arapey area hard.
Despite the visual impact of the phenomenon, no injuries or serious structural damage have been reported so far, although some vehicles and roofs were damaged by the size of the hail.

Neighbors reported that everything happened very quickly. In less than ten minutes, the sound of hail against the metal sheets turned into a thunderous roar, and the landscape changed completely: "It felt like we were in the middle of winter," said one resident.
The situation is causing concern because the north of the country has been experiencing repeated storms in recent days, complicating tourism and also affecting local producers.
Inumet continues to monitor the evolution of the atmospheric front, with a gradual improvement expected by the afternoon. The public is advised to stay informed through official channels and take precautions against further gusts or lightning.
