According to the preliminary report released at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, four vehicles were involved in the collision. A pickup truck traveling north-south rear-ended a small utility vehicle that was stopped on the shoulder, assisting another similar vehicle due to a mechanical failure. As a result of the impact, one of the vehicles overturned and the other was thrown onto the roadway, where it ended up colliding with a bus traveling northbound.
The same report indicated that, in addition to the driver of the pickup truck, the two drivers of the parked vehicles suffered serious injuries. No injuries were reported on the bus. At 9:24 a.m., the death of the pickup truck driver was confirmed, so the incident was classified as a fatal accident.
