A homicide in broad daylight shocked the Salto Nuevo neighborhood of Salto this Thursday. The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m., when a man was fatally shot in the chest while standing in a public street.
According to police reports, the assailant, who knew the victim, arrived at his home and shot him without saying a word. The attack took place at the intersection of Larrañaga and Cuareim streets, in front of neighbors who witnessed the incident.
The victim was rushed to Salto Hospital, but died shortly after arrival due to the severity of his injury.
The prosecutor in the case, Augusto Martinicorena, reported that both the attacker and the victim had criminal records and had been arguing for some time. Police arrested the suspect shortly after the crime and seized the weapon used.
The investigation is focused on confirming the motive for the attack and reconstructing the final movements of both suspects. The violent incident has caused great concern among residents, who are calling for increased police presence in the area.
