MADRID, 22 (EUROPA PRESS)

Xavier Ramos, an Ecuadorian journalist with the newspaper El Universo, has been found dead with stab wounds in his home in La Alborada, located in the city of Guayaquil, according to Ecuadorian security forces.

Police spokesman Gino Sánchez said the body of a 47-year-old man was found with "wounds consistent with those from a knife."

Thus, officers have proceeded to cordon off the area to gather all evidence that may clarify the circumstances of her death, which points to a possible homicide, according to reports from the newspaper 'El Comercio'.

Alarm bells went off after the journalist didn't show up for work. His colleagues went to his home and began searching for him.

The government issued a statement expressing its regret over Ramos' death and expressing its "full condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones."
