This Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., a serious accident occurred in Paso de los Toros, when an Espina company employee disappeared in the waters of the Negro River. The man was on the shore cleaning a backhoe. At one point, the machine began to slide into the river, and when he tried to stop it, the victim fell into the water with it.
An emergency operation was immediately launched to try to locate him. The ARN 2467 vessel and the PNN 205 boat, with three crew members on board, departed from the area. The teams gathered in the designated area to begin searching, although no positive results had been obtained by the afternoon.
The National Navy reported that a team of specialized divers has been coordinated to reinforce the search. Their arrival is expected the following day, with the goal of intensifying the search efforts in the waters of the Negro River. The presence of the backhoe in the riverbed complicates the operation due to its weight and the depth at which it may be found.
The incident occurred at a point on the river known for its current and the difficulty it poses for this type of rescue. Both the boats and divers will have logistical support over the next few hours while awaiting a new official report providing details on the outcome of the operations.
